The Spire - a small, contemporary and distinctively stylish hotel located in the heart of Queenstown, New Zealand - opened at the beginning of June.

With just ten carefully calibrated rooms, sleek bar and seriously fine dining room, The Spire Queenstown is dedicated to offering unmatched service in a thoroughly modern environment.

The Spire is owned by a syndicate of three New Zealand companies: Versan Properties, Harbour City Developments and a hospitality management company headed by Christiaan Palsenbarg and Eric Wegman.

“Our vision for The Spire was quite clear - a prime central Queenstown location, a small number of rooms, an international quality bar and a dining room offering a genuine culinary experience. Most importantly, we wanted a hotel with a distinctive, contemporary design focus for guests who don’t want to sacrifice great style for the sake of greater comfort and service,” Wegman says.

It’s a vision shared by The Spire General Manager, Ken Edwards.

"More than anything, The Spire is dedicated to delivering outstanding, thoughtful and highly personalised service. It will be this focused approach that sets us apart," Edwards says.

“The Spire has a sophisticated, distinctly New Zealand flavour, but it’s subtle, not overt. It’s hinted at through the use of colour, the contemporary New Zealand art collection and the materials,” sasys designer Stewart Harris of Martin Hughes Interiors.

Spacious, well lit and beautifully tailored for total comfort, each of the ten guest room features a fireplace, large balcony and an interactive multimedia system based on Microsoft’s Media Centre. Iconic contemporary furniture including instantly recognisable pieces like Charles Eames chairs and Philippe Starck lamps and modern New Zealand artworks add pure design punctuation.

Harris was also responsible for creating a seductively intimate bar space behind a swathe of black velvet. With beaten copper accents, fine glassware and ultra-comfortable banquets, the bar basks in a soft, firelit glow. Light and airy over breakfast, moody and intimate in the evening, The Spire dining room has been designed to transform to suit the time of day. Changing the tableware, accessories and staff outfits gives guests an entirely fresh perspective. Seating just 16 guests, The Spire dining room is under the guidance of renowned New Zealand chef, Rex Morgan.
