The foul mouthed multi millionaire celebrity chef, holder of three Michelin stars, is involved with the new Conrad in Tokyo.Despite the Japanese love of manners and polite formality in relationships the TV star has been given the task of creating the dining highlights for the restaurant and brasserie operations.
The luxury hotel, located just five minutes walk from the world’s most expensive real estate in Ginza, will combine legendary Conrad excellence with a sense of Japanese comfort and inspiration while boasting exemplary design and architecture. The hotel will occupy the top ten floors of the Tokyo Shiodome Building, a 37-story multi-purpose tower offering panoramic views over Hamarikyu Gardens, Rainbow Bridge and the Tokyo Bay.
The Conrad Tokyo will have 290 rooms (of which 68 are suites) with an industry-leading room size of 48m˛, three-metre high ceilings and full ceiling-to-floor windows. All rooms are modelled on a “City” or “Garden” concept according to their views, and features include 37-inch plasma screen televisions, satellite channels, DVD players, Video On Demand, wired and wireless high-speed Internet access and wireless phones in all rooms for use throughout the hotel. All bathrooms feature two sinks, rain showers, a separate toilet and freestanding bathtub.
The Conrad Tokyo offers the largest banquet facilities in Shiodome, including two state-of-the-art ballrooms and six banquet and meeting rooms equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment. The chapel, designed in white granite and mother of pearl, evokes an image of crystal-clear water and purity, and provides a new venue to host glamorous services for Tokyo’s betrothed.
In addition to Gordon Ramsay inspired restauraunts the hotel also has a Chinese restaurant “China Blue”. This features a spectacular 8-metre walk-in wine cellar, and offers a new experience of contemporary and avant-garde Chinese cuisine by renowned Chinese chef, Albert Tze Wai Shin, the former Executive Chef of the 5-star Four Seasons Singapore’s “Jiang-Na Chun” restaurant. There is also a Japanese restaurant “Kazahana”, divided into three different sections based on the themes of Kaiseki, Sushi and Teppan, and features three private dining rooms available with Tatami or wooden flooring.
The Conrad Tokyo’s 1,400m˛ spa and fully equipped fitness complex features modern Japanese design that evokes tranquility while employing western treatment methods exclusive to the Conrad Tokyo. Featuring 10 treatment rooms, the luxurious Spa was conceived in a modern style where lines are pure and colors are soft and calming. Japan’s first “Sumie-style” 25-meter indoor swimming pool is finished in pure black, incorporating the designs of the traditional paintings that blend in harmoniously with the Conrad Tokyo’s architecture.
