Brussels, Belgium - During the month of September, 125 Radisson SAS, Park Inn, Country Inn and Regent Hotels and resorts will participate in the global Hotel Environment Action Month (HEAM). HEAM was initiated in 2003 by ITP (International Tourism Partnership), the tourism section of the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders’ Forum. The aim of HEAM is to further educate employees and guests on environmental and social issues, and to raise awareness about the actions taken within individual hotels and in turn the work of ITP.
In all of the countries where Rezidor SAS operates hotels will be participating in HEAM. Moreover, all the hotels have shown great ingenuity in what actions they have chosen to roll out during September. There are almost as many HEAM activities being undertaken as hotels participating, with activities ranging from clean up campaigns, blood donations, collection of toys and clothes for charity, car free days, art competitions for children, non-smoking days and a renewed focus on providing employees with training on environmental management.
Many hotels will focus their efforts on helping disadvantaged children. In Norway, all Radisson SAS and Park Inn hotels will organise a “From Kids to Kids” day on September 4th. The children will be asked to pay for their entrance and the collected money will go to children in Uganda, Kenya and Sudan who are victims of civil war and AIDS. During that day, the hotels will organise competitions, karaoke, dancing and singing for children at the hotel premises.
The children will moreover be asked to write down what they wish for to make a better world. In Denmark, the hotels will support a local organisation that gives children the possibility to get a break from their everyday life, and in the Middle East, Sweden, Croatia, Turkey and Estonia several hotels will collect books, toys and clothes for local schools, orphanages and homes for disabled children. Moreover, several hotels in Germany and Switzerland are organising cooking lessons for orphans and disabled children.
