Stewardship of the environment for Brintons is not just an empty promise made to pacify the community or to impress their customers. It is a fundamental conviction which influences decision making and impacts upon working procedures.

Brintons are an environmentally aware manufacturing company, leading the industry by example in working with relevant committees, environmental authorities and like minded companies to promote lower emission and waste levels throughout the trade.
One such company with whom Brintons works is Anglo Felt Industries, one of the UK’s leading fibre recycling experts. Anglo specialise in “Closed Loop Recycling”, and lead the way in the flooring industry in the UK. Under their system, waste carpet is regenerated back into saleable carpet underlay, and Brintons are the first company in the UK to commit to this form of recycling.
When carpet waste becomes an unavoidable part of the manufacturing and distribution process, Anglo co-ordinate the collection and shipment of the material from Brintons’ Kidderminster based factory. The initial stage of the recycling process sees the waste material put through a series of pulling machines that convert the carpet back into fibre form.
Simon Macaulay, Anglo’s Managing Director describes the next stage of the recycling process. “Once we have the carpet in fibre form, we mix it with our classic jute hair blend. The two materials are effectively sandwiched together, creating an excellent underlay, largely due to the inherent recoil properties found in wool.”
Today, Brintons’ underfelt is just one of the many sustainable initiatives that the company is committed to. Julian Richardson, Brintons’ Commercial Manager comments, “Here at Brintons we are passionate about the environment and hate to see waste. We have worked closely with Anglo to produce a product we can recommend with confidence as the underlay of choice for our axminster and wilton carpet.”
Brintons’ underfelt is available in two weights; 42oz for the less commercial areas such as hotel guestrooms, and 50oz for the more demanding public spaces such as corridors, reception areas and function rooms.
