Hotel Design: An ‘Extraordinary Hotel’ Opens in Penarth

Extraordinary Hotels welcomes guests to stay within the opulent and decadent surroundings of their first small, luxury hotel, Holm House

Holm House is situated in the Victorian seaside town of Penarth, on the outskirts of Cardiff, in the Vale of Glamorgan. The hotel has been created by converting a 1926, former Ship Owner’s residence into a small luxury hotel with the creation of 12, uniquely designed bedrooms comprising of: three luxuriant and opulent loft suites with spectacular views across the Bristol Channel; five quirky and bohemian double bedrooms, a decadent ‘lovers’ suite; a relaxing spa suite with private access to the spa facilities; and two private garden suites with direct access from the car park, one of which has a small galley-style kitchen area for longer staying guests and its’ neighbour which is accessible by wheelchair and caters for guests with disabilities.

The public areas consist of a private dining/meeting room for 10 guests with presentation facilities; a 36 cover restaurant which can be sub-divided to provide larger meeting areas; a champagne lounge bar and a spa which includes: a small fitness room, two treatment rooms, and a relaxation room with views over the Channel and a Hydrotherapy pool.

The interiors at Holm House have been furnished to the highest standards using the best of modern and classic Welsh, British and European design. Frette Linen adorns the beds and Wi Fi and broadband connections are available and are free to guests. IDEAL Marble also supplies the bathrooms with a variety of stone to add an elegant finish to the project.

Susan Sessions, Managing Director, Extraordinary Hotels says: “Holm House was built in 1926 by a much travelled Ship-owner which meant that the house has an amazing character and we wanted to bring its heritage back to life in a contemporary style, but one which oozes opulence and decadence. I suppose ‘Bright Young Things meets Grand Designs’. The interiors brief was to find a design middle ground between contemporary hotel styling and 1920’s extravagance, each bedroom has its own unique personality with the hotel environment being more country house party than traditional paid for accommodation. The project allowed us to really explore the small hotel design concept and apply some imaginative space planning into the architecture of the existing building. We are very much looking forward to the opening and sharing this quirky, historic treasure with our guests!”
