Furthermore Morgan has been invited to form part of the Steering Committee that monitors and revises the standards relevant to this certification.
A number of sustainable policies have been in place at the company’s Southbourne plant for many years, such as the burning of waste timber to heat the factory, recycling or compacting of waste and strict elimination of packaging materials. The FISP certification has been achieved through taking these ideas further to comply with the tough standards set out by the programme.
The certification will benefit Morgan by providing a focus for sustainability and standards for improvements in all areas of the business. Already, Morgan is monitoring its carbon footprint and working to use only renewable heating sources.
Rodney McMahon, Managing Director of Morgan Contract Furniture, said “Morgan has always placed great emphasis on sustainability and efficiency, and we believe that the award of this certification and our role on the Steering Committee will be crucial in the future of our business and of the entire industry.
The FISP will enable Morgan to continue to lead the industry in its reduction of its environmental and social impact, to exceed compliance with government regulation, and to reassure customers of a genuine difference to the environment. Our design, craftsmanship and customer service philosophy has at its heart the objective of creating classic timeless furniture, genuine quality and total reliability which is in itself a major step to sustainability”.
The FISP certification, backed by the British Furniture Manufacturers Association (BFM), Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA) was launched with the aim of promoting sustainable development as a strategic business issue within the UK furniture industry.
