Archive Prints Iii, Murano & Giorgio Weaves

Liz Cann introduces the Autumn Collections…

The binding thread that runs through the many Zoffany fabric collections is a sense of grandeur and the influence of our rich archival heritage. This season we are proud to introduce the ‘Archive Prints III’ collection; a beautiful selection of dramatic, large-scale designs inspired by the distinctive character of antique, hand-painted fabrics. Taken from pieces found the Zoffany archive and in the Musee de l’Impression sur Etoffes in Mulhouse these wonderful designs have been sympathetically re-drawn and re-coloured in a stunning spectrum of colour combinations. Directional new printing techniques and the finest quality linens have been selected to truly instill a sophisticated and fresh appeal for use in the 21st century interior.

‘Murano’ and ‘Giorgio’, our two new weaves collections, successfully capture the quintessential Zoffany style. Richly patterned, finely textured and entirely elegant, each has its own individual appeal, be it oriental, traditional or geometric. The four designs add an opulent aesthetic to a classic setting but also offer a smart, contemporary twist with a luxurious sheen and an array of rich, updated colourways.

With the trend for blending the old with the new ever more evident in modern interiors the Autumn Collections follow in the Zoffany tradition, paying homage to the magnificent fabric designs of the past whilst continuing to lead the way in the innovation of truly contemporary furnishings.

ARCHIVE PRINTS III

The Archive Prints III collection of six impressive, large-scale designs takes inspiration from exotic botanicals, Indian palampores and antique wallcoverings, most dating back to the late 18th century. The magnificent, full width ‘Chambalon’ and ‘Burr Tree’ have been taken from wall hangings in Chambalon Castle, Switzerland, now housed in the Musee de l’Impression sur Etoffes in Mulhouse. Redrawn in the Zoffany studio they capture the stunning hand-painted effect of the original pieces. ‘Botanique’ originates from an outline woodblock of an 18th century French design of exotic fruits. Enlarged and available in print, discharge print and a single weave option, it is a striking and contemporary design. ‘Desert Flower’, a multi-coloured design from the Mulhouse archive, depicts exotic flowers on a beautiful glazed linen. The collection is completed by two full width designs both taken from the Zoffany archive; ‘Indienne’, a huge tree of life block print cleverly translated onto a slub linen to recreate a worn, antique feel and ‘Emperors Musician’, a beautiful print on heavy linen depicting an oriental scene in a naturalistic frame.

MURANO WEAVES

These three richly patterned jacquard designs are woven in Caserta which has been the traditional centre of silk weaving in Italy for hundreds of years. Ranging in style from indienne to oriental they are available in a palette of colours from cool, contemporary to rich, classic. Designed for curtains, ‘Murano’ and ‘Damasco Pirato’ are classically inspired designs, the former featuring motifs of pomegranate richly woven with an embroidered effect on a silk ground and the latter taken from a damask design in the Zoffany archive featuring a scrolling leaf pattern. ‘Vivaldi’, also suitable for light upholstery, is taken from an antique Japanese kimono and is richly embroidered with stylized elements of fruit and flowers.

GIORGIO

A smart, small scale geometric design woven in a vast selection of colours from zesty lime to iridescent peacock blue. With a luxurious sheen and a beautiful slub texture ‘Giorgio’ is an infinitely useable plain offering a sophisticated and up-dated alternative to chenille or velvet. It is suitable for upholstery and curtains and is designed to complement Murano Weaves as well as other Zoffany collections.
