Leading UK seating company Boss Design was pleased to showcase Tom, Dick and Harry at this year’s 100% Design.
This trio of tub chairs by award winning designer, Mark Gabbertas, offer a subtle, progressive design. Aimed towards reception, breakout and lounge areas, Tom, Dick and Harry work successfully within the same environment or as three individual pieces.
As Gabbertas explained, “Boss has an unrivalled reputation in the UK for the quality of its upholstery and the skill of its craftsmen. This gave me the opportunity to design very simple pieces where the merit of this upholstery process would be an intrinsic part of the overall offering.
Right at the beginning of the design process, I considered how I could reduce the form of these chairs to the essence of what is required, from a functional perspective.
I wanted to give these pieces character through their simplicity. Therefore Tom’s almost austere form uses very simple straight arms, sides and angled back.
Dick and Harry are logical developments from Tom, whereby a single element is changed per piece, which creates a strong visual unity across the range whilst retaining their essential individuality”.
Launched in May this year, the designs are sure to change the way specifiers look at upholstery, with their contemporary, architectural visual and unique family relationship.
As Boss’ Design Director, Mark Barrell said, “This trio has a unique look in the UK upholstery industry and we are keen to explore this in future projects with Mark Gabbertas”.
Tom, Dick and Harry are the product of ambitious engineering involving large scale liquid foam moulds around a hidden steel frame. This means they achieve a slender aesthetic but with soft cushioning.
The trio comes in a variety of fabrics complemented by a choice of either turned polished, aluminium or chrome skid legs.
Boss operates a strong Corporate Social Responsibility policy. From the initial design of all its products, including Tom, Dick and Harry, through to end-of-life-management, the company monitors every stage of the journey to ensure minimal environmental impact and maximum social benefits. As a carbon neutral company we are committed to reducing, reusing and recycling materials within our production processes and we offer a unique service that allows our furniture to be 100% reused or recycled.
