Miniview: Ashburn Hotel, a Boutique in Kensington, London

The variation on the aubergine colour scheme is transferred through to the bedrooms, picking up rich tones of browns, gold’s and mahogany in the soft furnishings and furniture. Whilst the room I was permitted to view was not overly large, there were more than ample storage facilities in the wardrobes which also included a safe and TCMF. The 38 bedroom, four-star hotel also provides complimentary water, free wireless and broadband connection, free CD library and Pay for movies. The en-suite bathrooms have a bath with wall-mounted shower and a separate hand-held shower.

The breakfast area combines rich colours and textures of the large chairs with delicate, fresh colours of the wallpaper and side-board. The wallpaper reflects the scene outside, with the ivy trailing down the cream walls and the furniture attempts to connect the reception and bedroom areas. The photos on the wall would perhaps make a better feature if framed in a wood which could marry the colours of the furniture onto the walls.

Whilst the Ashburn is not part of a hotel group, it is represented by Epoque Hotels, their Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio recently awarded with the prize for the Best Interior Design for bedrooms and bathrooms at the European Hotel Design Awards. Each Epoque Hotel is carefully selected for ‘its character, charm, quality and central position, expressing the originality and atmosphere of the city where it is located’ which is perfectly fitting of the Ashburn, for where else could this sumptuous hotel be located than in the Royal Borough of Kensington where, despite the ravages of time through the wars, the area has retained its unique characteristics and historical buildings to form one of the most interesting areas for hotels London has to offer.
