Hotel: IHG opens 45th hotel in Greater China

Beijing, 28 April, 2004 – Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing opens in the heart of the Guanganmen commercial and civic area, south-west of Beijing. As the only internationally branded hotel in this key part of the city, this hotel has the advantage of setting the benchmark for international hospitality and catering to international travellers' demand for world-class hospitality.

Owned by Beijing Capital Group, Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing is managed by InterContinental Hotels Group. This is InterContinental Hotels Group's fifth Holiday Inn's in Beijing and the 45th hotel in Greater China.

"We are confident that international travelers and 19.2 million members of our loyalty programme Priority Club Rewards seeking world-class hotels and are familiar with Holiday Inn's service offering, will no doubt find that Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing is a hotel of choice in the Guanganmen district. This latest addition to the Group's portfolio in Beijing reinforces our presence here in China and more importantly, it augurs well for the Group as travel trends continue to dictate high inbound travel growth for China, said Mr A. Patrick Imbardelli, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, InterContinental Hotels Group.

Guests staying at Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing will appreciate the quality service and amenities that are synonymous with the Holiday Inn brand. They may also notice the subtle differences in design and operation that tell them they are in China.

Some of these differences, such as chop-sticks on the restaurant tables will be expected. However the subtleties of design may pass them by, such as the use of the diaphanous sheers to provide an illusion of privcacy for tables in the Restuarant - surely one can see echoes here of traditional paper screens? As we saw in the previous article on the Holiday Inn Seoul, it is possible to meet international standards of Hotel homogeneity whilst still retaining a local feel.

Holiday Inn, the definitive US chain, seem to be successfully achieving this in their Asian properties.

Whilst having Club floors with executive rooms, where the thoughtful local touches can again be seen in the suite (see image), there are both International and Chinese restaurants inthe hotel to cater for differing palates.
