The Sheraton Fota Island Resort is Ireland’s newest luxury destination. It is situated at the heart of a peaceful island, surrounded by gorgeous scenery in County Cork, and lies in a 780 acre estate which is included in The Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes in Ireland.
It boasts a unique combination of championship golf courses, a stylish hotel & spa, luxurious residential lodges and a world class golf academy set in an idyllic coastal landscape.
The Sheraton Fota Island Hotel & Spa is the welcoming hotel at the heart of the Resort, with 123 en-suite rooms and eight private penthouse suites. The sensuous and indulging Fota Island Spa is spread over 1600 square metres and has 18 rooms offering over 60 treatments.
Maura Mulroe of Galway-based design practice DWA worked closely with the owners of the hotel to exude a sense of exclusivity and rejuvenation in the spa. She turned to luxury bathroom manufacturer Kohler to enhance the tranquil surroundings and create a memorable sense of luxury.
Large glazed windows allow natural light into the spa and the use of water elements, flora and fauna embellished this experience. Natural materials such as stone, glass and timber were required to create an understated colour palette and a variety of textures.
The marble Purist wet surface basin adds a touch of pure and unique luxury to the spa. The Purist mirrored cabinet with integral Laminar mixer creates a sculptured water flow over the basin’s surface.
Other Kohler vessels include the iconic cast iron Moxie in vapour orange with beaded curtain detail, the classic Crucible in natural accent interiors of white, seagrass and lemon which complements individual treatment rooms, and the understated styling of DemiLav which provides a simple elegance.
The Serpentine Bronze Vessel, designed with intricate textured patterns has also been used to add a touch of luxury to the communal wash station area.
As well as offering the chance to rejuvenate body and spirit, guests to Fota Island can also play a round of golf in one of Ireland’s best loved golf courses which has twice hosted the Irish Open.
The original 18 hole golf course, The Deerpark, was designed by Irish Ryder Cup star, Christy O'Connor Jr. and twice English Amateur Champion, Peter McEvoy.
The newly refurbished Clubhouse has spacious and well-appointed locker rooms with the added luxury of spacious steam rooms. As in the spa, Kohler’s Gentry brassware is in the Golf Club to accompany the Conical Bell vessels.
The new Fota Island Resort combines elegance, amenities, natural beauty, serenity and service. The luxury spa facilities, range of activities and beautiful surroundings make this one of the most beautiful destinations on the Irish coast.
