John Stefanidis Fabrics – Spring 2008

John Stefanidis’ collection of colourful and original fabrics is one of the interior design trade’s best kept secrets. Attention-grabbing featured fabrics such as Alexandrine in shocking pink or Chinese Clouds in rich cobalt blue create room schemes that are thrilling and inspiring. His small geometric designs are classics in the art of coordination and are often used as linings, for lampshades or indeed, as companion fabrics in a colour scheme. Neither harshly modernist nor strictly classic, these fabrics are examples of good design that is timeless and completely versatile.

For Spring 2008, John Stefanidis Fabrics is introducing five fabulous designs in a range of colourways and on a selection of ground cloths such as false suede and hessian. The fabrics are hand-printed which gives depth of colour on even moderate metrages.

GONFALONIERE

A gonfaloniere in Renaissance Italy wore an elaborate costume to identify his distinguished position. This design was inspired by the embroidery on his coat and incorporates sinuous floral elements with stylised fan-shaped leaves and undulating ribbons of lace on a dotted ground.

Width: 120 cm
Repeat: 89.50cm
Composition: 100% cotton

EMMA

Inspired by an English woven silk dating from the 1730’s, Emma is a striking and unusual print, with repeating ‘bouquets’ combining foliage and over-scaled flowers anchored on an island with floral baskets. This was a period of naturalism in silk weaving and larger designs allowed for detailed, natural motifs with more subtle shading. It therefore takes 10 screens to recreate the soft blend of colours in this beautiful design.

Width: 118cm
Repeat: 69cm
Composition: 100% cotton

UDAIPHUR

A large scale pattern with a delicate lace-like, paisley motif on a diamond trellis ground in two tones of the same hue. The design combines elements of the traditional paisley with a small geometrical motif to create a truly contemporary fabric.

Width: 120cm
Repeat: 29cm
Composition: 100% Cotton

ESRAJIM STRIPE

Stripes never go in or out of fashion, they are endlessly chic and versatile and can be used to enhance any scheme or as a feature on their own. Esrajim Stripe is a simple two-colour millipede stripe that has endless possibilities as a lining, walling or blinds.

Width: 117cm
Repeat: -
Composition: 100% Cotton Sateen

FISHBONES

An amusing, decorative ‘go-with’ design featuring a stripe composed of stylised fishbones.

Width: 120cm
Repeat: 15.50cm
Composition: 100% Cotton
