Inside the bedrooms the drama continues with black lacquer, black marble set against primary colours. The timber veneered wall allows the back of the wardrobes to project into the adjoining room reducing wall widths. By this device the designer has gained an extra bedroom width in every ten rooms. There is a separate toilet inside the room door, and the bathroom is open to the bedroom with mirrors and glass walls to the see-through shower enclosure presenting illusions of space. Floor to ceiling window is sided by a black lacquered door opening, although no balcony stands between the railing and the guest.
The whole of the corridor bedroom design creates a sense of drama in the interior. The simple finishes are echoed in the simple colour panels that stand in place of artwork, and the primary accents of upholsteries in the furnishings. White and black, red and green, all is primary excitation. The design is no background statement but an affirmation of style.
This is no bland on bland solution but a love me or leave me visual challenge. Both designer and hotelier have been bold and brave in setting this confrontation to the visual senses, so laden with references to art historical and design movements from Lissitzsky to minimalism to Blakes to Japan. The result is both shocking and exciting at the same time. All this from a chain too – bravo SolMelia and designers Schneider + Schumacher!
