An expanded, enhanced and revitalised Maison Talbooth (Dedham, nr. Colchester) will re-open this April, unveiling three added bedrooms, an outdoor swimming pool complex with a hard tennis court alongside and more choice for indoor and outdoor eating. Having begun life as a 10 bedroom hotel in 1969, the Maison will be bringing its polished touch to the beauty arena for the first time when it also introduces three brand new beauty treatment rooms as part of its spring relaunch. The property’s six month renovation project – costing £1.5 million - will not only bolster Maison Talbooth’s standing as one of the UK’s finest small country hotels but also firmly establish it as a superb choice for a fun, relaxed and stylish private ‘house party’ retreat on the Essex-Suffolk border, deep in the heart of Constable country at the head of the Stour valley.
By converting the top floor to house the three extra bedrooms and converting a former ground floor suite into the three new beauty treatment rooms, Maison Talbooth will now feature 12 bedrooms and suites in total. The three fabulous new second floor bedrooms that are being created will not only boast luxurious interiors - with traditional undercurrents and contemporary statements blending seamlessly together - but will also offer particularly outstanding views. For instance, one of the new rooms will bring with its own striking sitting room, bedroom and bathroom, wide and sweeping views out towards Stratford St Mary (Suffolk’s most southerly village) and also over the Dedham Vale (designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Similarly, the ground floor’s newly-improved Garden Room (for breakfast and informally snacking) will look down to the pool area and also capture stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
The arrival of its outdoor swimming pool complex - with an expansive decked sun terrace, covered stoop deck with log burning fire (plus a poolside dining room) and outdoor hot tub - will certainly underscore Maison Talbooth’s private house party definition, allowing guests to enjoy various leisurely pursuits alongside any specially-designated celebrations during their stay. Stepping up from the pool area, guests can head to the Maison’s tennis court situated on its own grassy bank.
Rest and relaxation will be further emphasised when Maison Talbooth teams up with Dermalogica
to offer a broad menu of day spa treatments to hotel residents and day spa visitors alike. As Dermalogica’s flagship spa in East Anglia, Maison Talbooth will also feature a ‘beauty bar’ where guests and visitors can test out Dermalogica products.
Ideal for a ‘destination’ stay – for a couple on a romantic break, a private ‘house party’, an exclusive wedding celebration or a corporate team-building retreat – Maison Talbooth also blends into its equation other appealing activities simply by calling on its sister properties (all within a 20 mile and 20minute radius. The renowned 16th century timber-framed, riverside Le Talbooth restaurant can be reached in a minute by courtesy car when fine dining is sought while for a more informal meal and a buzzy atmosphere, milsoms – also on the outskirts of Dedham - serves up a lively gastropub experience. Venturing further afield and seeking a dedicated fish menu, guests will be captivated by The Pier on the Quay at Harwich, just 20 minutes down the road.
“I’m also thrilled to announce that shortly after the re-opening of Maison Talbooth we will be welcoming a fifth member to our group, thanks to the recent purchase of the Grade II listed Georgian mansion, Kesgrave Hall, just north of Ipswich,” adds Paul Milsom. “Plans for our new Suffolk property to be ‘milsoms Kesgrave Hall’ - a 100 seat restaurant and bar, plus 15 bedrooms, overlooking 38 acres of parkland - will be revealed in more detail shortly.”
