2008 is once more a year during which Kempinski Hotels is adding numerous outstanding properties to its global portfolio, including the group’s first project on tracks.

The group aims to achieve this through assembling the world’s finest collection of individual, five star luxury properties, where each one is either the market leader or the destination’s most unique property, while maintaining a geographically balanced selection of city and resort destinations and continuing to offer guests distinctive and unique services.
In spring 2008, the 355-room Kempinski Hotel Xi’an will open in the capital of Shaanxi province. Perfectly located between Xi’an city centre and the closest to the world renowned Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses, and Huaqing thermal springs the hotel is just 3 km away from the planned new Xi’an railway station and 45 km from Xianyang International Airport. The hotel features a state-of–the-art pillarless ballroom of 1,400 m2 and several multi-function rooms designed to appeal to the more than 450 trade fairs held in Xi’an each year. Like no other hotel in Xi'an, Kempinski also features unique outside river views and facilities to accommodate all types of events from product launches to team-building, from theme evenings to break-out sessions. A 1,200 m2 Spa and Wellness centre will be added in the first quarter of 2008. In response to a growing demand, for enjoying Karaoke in an upscale environment, summer 2008 will see the addition of a 3000 m2 KTV experience as well as the famous and popular Paulaner Brauhaus.
Tangula Luxury Trains - managed by Kempinski are scheduled to leave on their maiden voyages in September 2008. Inaugural journeys will depart from Lhasa, Lijiang and Beijing. The purpose-built Tangula trains will take guests on two distinctive routes through China. The Northern route is a 5 day/4 night journey departing from Beijing for Lhasa, and a 4 day/3 night journey departing from Lhasa to Beijing venturing across the mystical Tibetan plateau, crossing wild grasslands, desert plains and vast plateaus. The Southern route from Beijing to Lijiang also takes five-days/four nights, one day and night shorter than in the opposite direction, and explores the inspiring landscapes of Guangxi and Yunnan provinces. On all routes, daily off-train excursions will enable guests to further immerse themselves in local cultures and traditions. Each Tangula luxury train will accommodate up to 96 passengers in 48 spacious suites. The suites will feature an en-suite bathroom with shower, mini bar and in-room entertainment system with music, TV and satellite internet. A butler is on call throughout the journey, while a doctor is available during the ascent to Lhasa.
Kempinski Hotel Suzhou is scheduled to welcome its first guests in May. Set amidst a large estate which encompasses a 27-hole Jinji Lake International Golf Course, a state guesthouse of five villas, the hotel will feature 458 luxurious rooms and suites on 21 storeys. Located on the shores of Dushu Lake, the property will feature extensive dining options including a large Chinese restaurant, an all-day dining restaurant, a Japanese specialty restaurant and a Paulaner Bräuhaus on two levels. Additionally there will be a wine and cigar bar, as well as the Kempi Deli. Conference facilities will include a grand ballroom covering 1,850 m2, eight meeting rooms, and a state-of-the-art business centre. Hirsch Bedner Associates has been commissioned for the interior design of the hotel.
