When the expanded, enhanced and revitalised Maison Talbooth (Dedham, nr. Colchester) re-opens in April, the 12 bedroom hotel will be bringing its polished touch to the day spa arena for the first time, by introducing three brand new treatment rooms and teaming up with, Dermalogica. With its signature ‘Face MappingSM’ technique and ‘Skin Bar’ facility also featured alongside a range of treatments, Dermalogica’s presence at Maison Talbooth will serve as its leading showcase in East Anglia.

Next month’s completion of Maison Talbooth’s six month renovation project - costing £1.5 million - will see the addition of three completely new second floor bedroom suites (at the top of the house) matched by the introduction of the three new first floor treatment rooms. Bedroom and treatment suites will be similarly spacious, airy and contemporary in style with clean lines, statement details and designer names - such as Mulberry, Kelly Hoppen and Farrow & Ball - represented. All six will capture sweeping views out over the surrounding countryside, with some looking out towards Stratford St Mary (Suffolk’s most southerly village) and over the Dedham Vale (designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), for instance. One of the treatment rooms will feature two beds for couples to enjoy a variety of face and body treatments together. Pedicures, manicures, waxing and eyebrow threading will also be among an all-encompassing selection on the treatment menu at Maison Talbooth
Whether it’s a personalised skin therapy, a beauty treatment, some general pampering or languid rest and relaxation that holds particular appeal for guests and visitors, Maison Talbooth will have a number of other leisurely options on offer, too. Before or after a treatment, the Garden Room is just the spot for refreshments and snacks. With its lofty, high-vaulted pitched roof, tiled floor and French windows - leading out to the garden lawn and down to the swimming pool, Pool House and tennis court - the Garden Room can play its part in the overall experience of a day spa visit, overnight stay, weekend break or private ‘house party’ celebration.
A wander down the garden path will lead you to Maison Talbooth’s new outdoor swimming pool complex with more choice for indoor and outdoor eating a hard tennis court alongside. The Pool House will boast an expansive decked sun terrace, a covered stoop deck with log burning fire (plus a poolside dining room) and outdoor hot tub. Stepping up from the pool area, guests can head to the tennis court (situated on its own grassy bank) which is yet another new feature of the re-energised Maison Talbooth.
The synergy between the interior design schemes and day spa philosophy for Maison Talbooth’s reincarnation is all down to one person: Geraldine Milsom. She finely tunes and balances her innate flair, sense of exuberance, respect for restraint and eye for detail within the various design schemes she has created across the Milsom Hotels & Restaurants group (to which Maison Talbooth belongs) over the past 15 years. Addressing the very specific and individual demands of each restaurant and hotel property - from the formal to informal and from private parkland to public harbourside locations – Geraldine’s distinctive and defining approach is deftly stamped on each individual Milsom property. She is also in full swing with the interior design for the group’s new Suffolk property, Kesgrave Hall - a 100 seat restaurant and bar with 15 bedrooms that overlooks 38 acres of parkland and is scheduled to open on 30th April.
