International contract seating manufacturer Boss Design is pleased to announce the launch of Mars, the latest addition to its comprehensive range of seating for commercial environments.
Officially launched on Thursday 17th April at the Kingpin Suites in Bloomsbury (London), Lorraine Cunliffe and Jenny Harding from HotelDesigns went along to enjoy an evening of bowling and to catch up with the partner in design, international furniture designer, Paul Brooks.

A modest Paul simply stated that “this is a good chair. It’s competitively priced and well-designed… what more is there to say?” Developed over two years, Mars a robust product that offers a versatile family of meeting, visitor, breakout and conference seating options.
There are over 4000 holes in the backrest of the chair, interestingly inspired from speaker covers in a car. The idea was to create a breathable, flexible mesh back visitor chair which would also fit with the current creative range offered by Boss. This did however, present a design issue for the Dudley based manufacturer as new tools had to be created in order to carry out the task; no-one had attempted to inject that many holes in a chair before.
Mark Barrell, Design Director said;
‘We are aware that people are spending increasing periods of time seated for meetings, conferences and other non workstation related purposes. We realise that comfort and support is just as important in these instances as when seated at a desk.’
He adds;
‘Mars has been designed, developed and rigorously tested over a two year period to deliver a modern yet reassuringly practical and generously proportioned product.’
Available as a four-legged or cantilever chair, Mars can be specified with or without arms and with or without an upholstered back. The steel frame can be supplied in either a polished finish or painted in black or silver. The ideal product for conference facilities, Mars will stack up to five chairs high without a trolley, and has an optional linking device which slides discreetly underneath the seat when not in use.
