The House That Finesse Built Is Open for Business!

The ribbon has been cut, the beds are made, the uniforms are pressed and the team are ready to welcome you into Derby’s 1st Boutique Hotel - The Cathedral Quarter Hotel.

The £5 million development was officially opened this morning by Manager Director of The Finesse Collection, James Blick, breakfast style canapés were circulating, and Stratstone Aston Martin, Derby had most definitely set the scene with twoV8 Vantage Roadsters claiming pride of place outside the entrance.

The grand foyer now the reception area has been painstakingly restored with specialists working on the original mosaic floor and the Scagliola marble pillars. Now with a specially commissioned Scagliola reception desk, the latest design of Romo fabric furniture and a stunning 1st edition two piece bespoke ‘Whitehurst’ clock designed especially for the development by Smith of Derby, it most definitely has the wow factor!

Leading off the main reception is Derby’s only chic cocktail bar - Bar Sixteen; Bar Sixteen named after the address of the building is headed up by Italian born Thomas Colombo, and will be open to the public from 12 noon until last orders 6 days a week. With its impressive black marble bar, original fireplace and a cocktail list to die for, Bar Sixteen is set to be the hottest new bar on the block.

Adjacent is the Hotel Lounge which is more informal in style with a striking design theme of bronze and red it makes a real impact on arrival. This area will again be open to the public from 11am until 5pm when lunch, cocktails, coffee and even a traditional English tea can be taken. After 5pm the lounge will be exclusive for hotel residents only.

Head up the sweeping staircase, you see the original stained glass window display, again which has been restored by experts during the 10 month refurbishment programme.

The accommodation offering of 38 bedrooms spans four floors, each has its own colour scheme. The mix of Doubles, King Bedded rooms and Suites ensures there is a room to match most budgets.
The two Suites are rammed packed with features including flat screen TV’s at the bottom of the mood lit bath tubs, a water fall shower and a mezzanine level bedroom.

All room types are also equiped with mini bars, lap top safes, DVD players, toiletries, LCD TV’s, and complimentary internet access.

CLINK Spa, located in the basement of the building is due to open its doors to the public in Mid May. Exposed brick work, frosted glazing and mood lighting set the scene for this urban retreat. Equipt with its very own ‘hot house’ which incorporates a Sauna, Steam Room and Experience shower (which is complimentary to all residents), relaxation area, nail bar and three treatment rooms (one of them a double) CLINK is the perfect place for pampering.

The 10 month major refurbishment programme which has taken this dated Police building to the height of modern luxury has been challenging. The addition of an extra circa 3,500 square feet and the sympathetic nature in which the property has been restored has been no mean feat, but with 3 other hotels (all Grade II listed) running successfully in the area, the Finesse team and their partners have most definitely risen to the occasion.

‘There’s been days when completion has been in sight and others when it has just been out of reach…’ comments Managing Director, James Blick ‘… refurbishing a 100 year old building does come with its challenges however it has been a pleasure to do and extremely rewarding! I’m sure that in some areas we could have been a little faster in the refurbishment however we simply wanted to ensure every little detail was covered to ensure the best for Derby’s 1st Boutique Hotel and its guests!

Other leading bodies in the city are also pleased to see the doors open, John Cadwallader, Chief Executive of Derby Cityscape said ‘the provision for high quality hotels in the city centre has always been a priority for Derby Cityscape. The investment by The Finesse Collection is a testament to the increasing demand for high quality hotel facilities in the heart of our city. This unique hotel is ideally situated to enjoy the historic Cathedral Quarter and demonstrates how sensitive refurbishment can help breathe life back into existing buildings.’
