Hotel Design: Colonial Echoes in Williamsburg

ATLANTA (May 6, 2005) – InterContinental Hotels Group announced today the opening of its newest Crowne Plaza hotel in Williamsburg, Va. The 303-room hotel just completed a $4.5 million renovation. There are now three Crowne Plaza hotels with nearly 800 guestrooms in the state of Virginia with the addition of the Crowne Plaza Williamsburg. The InterContinental Hotels Group portfolio in Virginia is represented by five of its brands including the upscale, full service, limited service, upscale extended stay and mid-scale extended stay segments with 44 hotels and more than 7,000 rooms.

“This is the 6th opening for the Crowne Plaza brand in North America this year,” said Kevin Kowalski, vice president, brand management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts.

The four-story “L-shaped” building surrounds a courtyard and is newly designed with colonial décor, incorporating period artifacts on display in the hotel’s lobby. Other renovations include: new carpet and wall coverings in all guest rooms, corridors and public areas; electronic locks and updated bathroom vanities in guest rooms; improvements to the banquet facilities and fitness center. Veranda, the hotel’s restaurant, features casual American cuisine seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. JB’s Lounge offers light fare and cocktails during lunch and dinner as well as overstuffed chairs and a large screen television.
