Generally however the bedrooms work well and look chic. Large windows bring in plenty of light and the airconditioning is totally unobtrusive in operation as well as being effective.Soundproofing between rooms is excellent too, as one would expect in an older building of more solid construction.
The suites are generously sized. The use of contemporary casegoods and the views obtained from their positioning in the mansard roof make them delightful spaces to stay in. The approach is up what amount to a private stair giving an exclusive feel before entering the space, and the lounges and bedrooms enjoy views in opposite directions across the Parisian rooftops.
All rooms in the hotel are equipped with flat scrren TV's, there is wifi internet throughout and all the usual pieces of kit one comes to expect in a quality hotel, but here it is supplemented by relaxed smiling and efficient service. The staff smile a great deal and make the guest feel welcome - as one hotelier said to me once, if staff don't smile at guests then they shouldn't be working in the hospitality industry, and it does matter. Here nothing was too much trouble, from that socket adapter to directions.

St. Germaine is a quiet part of the city, and Paris is not generally a noisy city to start with, certainly quieter than London, so this is a quiet hotel. Its 56 bedrooms and suites provide a still stylish place to stay in this stylish city, and the soft refurbishment of 2002 has kept the fashionable edge the photos of 50’s film stars in the Restaurant suggest the hotel has always had. As a style icon the hotel has been overtaken by more recent competitors, but more recent competitors often lose sight of comfort in their search for the fashionable. The Montalembert has managed to be comfortable as well as chic, offering style and comfort around the corner and within easy walking distance of the Musée D’Orsay and the Louvre.
