On the upper floors the constriction of the building at the junction of the right angle layout plan works for the designers. The reception to the gym shows this quite clearly, where the lift will decant guests, probably already changed for their workout, in front of the reception desk. This gives security and control. The narrowness of the space with windows on both sides floods it with light.

Bold carpet design and dark colours give solidity and visual weight to the floor and contrasts with the lightness of the paint colours.

Carpet pattern again works strongly on the floor below where the lobby area for the conference and meeting rooms is contained. Again paint colours are restrained putting emphasis on the choice of the timber and marble of the desk itself, making the natural the major decorative element in a careful exercise of restrained design.

To Poles this hotel, in common with many others that have been built 'behind the iron curtain' in recent years must seem like a space ship perched in their capital city. The simple but sophisticated approach taken by the designers has given the country an international hotel of distinction that will not come as too much of an initial shock after years of socialism.

However the quality of materials and finishes, in common with the hotels in Krakow, and other central European cities such as Bratislava, Budapest or Prague, is bringing back the opulence of a wealthy prewar society. This is giving exemplars for other buildings and leading the wave of investment that is generating growth rates approaching 10%.
