Alderbrook is not just a resort, although it does that element well, using the Hood Canal literally on its doorstep as part of the resources. With orcas regular visitors, and tales from the staff of the orcas chasing seals up onto the lawns overlooking the water as in the famous piece of TV film, it is as one person said “National Geographic for real”.
Rich in wildlife, marvellous for city eyes used to concrete and cars, the site of salmon leaping as they are, in turn, the prey of the seals, or of ospreys diving into the water to catch salmon in full view of diners in the restaurant, guests in the cottages and on bed room balconies, is something no designer can build in. However the designer has laid out the internal architecture and the design of the rooms so that these real life wildlife movies can be seen. The result is comfortable rooms that all have views, most having magnificent balconies that look across the gardens, the water of the Hood Canal to the mountains beyond.
