Alderbrook Resort and Spa
The stream in the foreground is a salmon spawning stream, restored by the hotel, and haunted by seals who patrol the approaches of the salmon who can be seen leaping to escape their predators. Cottages are hotel accomodation and high tide brings the water right up to them
There are 18 cottages in the grounds enhancing the resort offering, and some right at the waters edge. The stream in the foreground is a stream that salmon spawn in - at high tide the water is almost to the wall below the cottages
"ospreys diving into the water in full view of diners in the restaurant"
Alderbrook is not just a resort, although it does that element well, using the Hood Canal literally on its doorstep as part of the resources. With orcas regular visitors, and tales from the staff of the orcas chasing seals up onto the lawns overlooking the water as in the famous piece of TV film, it is as one person said “National Geographic for real”.

Rich in wildlife, marvellous for city eyes used to concrete and cars, the site of salmon leaping as they are, in turn, the prey of the seals, or of ospreys diving into the water to catch salmon in full view of diners in the restaurant, guests in the cottages and on bed room balconies, is something no designer can build in. However the designer has laid out the internal architecture and the design of the rooms so that these real life wildlife movies can be seen. The result is comfortable rooms that all have views, most having magnificent balconies that look across the gardens, the water of the Hood Canal to the mountains beyond.

Bedrooms are comfortable, and all have a day bed in the window

Views from bedroom balconies are stunning as the reflection in the window indicates
The 18 cottages offer family accomodation, or self catering accomodation if required, and their seclusion is supplemented in some case by their being right on the waterfront. They are however only a few minutes walk from the main hotel, so guests are not cut off from the restaurants and bars, and they have the full housekeeping services etc..
