Bathrooms are all fitted with a large soaking tub as well as a separate walk in shower. The mirror opposite the toilet is a little disconcerting - I am not enamoured of looking at my own image whilst sitting on the toilet. Mirrors and marble finishes speak of quality but the detail is somewhat lacking - the shaving mirror for example is well away from the wash hand basin.

Many of the suites interconnect with others allowing for them to be joined together to create larger suites. Each suite is generously proportioned with lounge/diner, kitchenette, large bathroom and large bedrooms. The balconies are only on the front of the building, and add the delight of summer dining overlooking the river. The self catering option takes the pressure off the public areas.

The planning of making two hotels seems to have been decided late on in the construction programme. The use of the large area over the entrance intended by the designers to be the restaurant and bar area for functions robs guests of the views unless they are in the suites.

I believe that there are 57 five star hotels within the London area. The Plaza on the River is the one with the views northwards, illustrating how Mr Hilton's stricture to focus on 'location, location, location' can be interpreted in different ways. With two new hotels and another 1200+ rooms being built as I write (January 2008)on the South Bank by this operator the location seems to work well. The high occupancy rate enjoyed shows that they are successful. The polished design and stylish public areas reinforces the quality. It seems a formula for success indeed.
